I waited forever to have two months off so I can focus on crochet and now that the time has come, I’m dazed and confused as to what to attempt first. Start something new or tackle to huge pile of WIPS I have hanging around Chez NexStitch.
I’m currently staring down at this shawl that I started awhile back (last summer in fact, ack). I really want to make it work because I believe whole-heartedly it’s an awesome pattern that a winner but I just can’t get it to work.
The 3rd round of repeats are bunching up terribly. I think I have to shift my thinking, my approach in tackling it to make it work. I’d love to put this one out next.
Am I the only one who gets this stumped with designing (and is consequently this far behind in publishing stuff)?
Nope. You are NOT alone. I hit a snag and then the project languishes for a loooong time before I pick it up again. I have many patterns started that I need to finish. Of course, if I had your Illustrator skills… :p
Illustrator helps, for sure. I can make an illustration to keep track of what’s going on. Right now, I have a really large illustration that I did on paper for this shawl (somewhere….gotta find it) that I did while I was designing it. I laid it down on a really large piece of foamcore board with a piece of large manilla paper on top. I tacked the shawl to the board and drew the stitch diagram as I went. I’m hoping that’ll help me pick up where I left off, providing that it’s accurate. I just don’t have a memory for these kinds of things. That’s why I need to finish what I’ve started right away, otherwise I’m back to doing it all over again. UGH. I think I’m headed there.
Nope you’re not alone but knowing that doesn’t necessarily make it any easier does it? Keep at it – it’s a creative process!
