NexStitch Headquarters, Underway!

I figured it’s been nearly 3 weeks since I updated everyone as to the current status of the office remodel.

After I finished remodeling two weeks ago, I re-finished my desktop. It was a hot mess from years of neglect.

In desperate need of TLC.

Considering that my step-father built it for me, and he’s now been gone for two years, I felt fixing it up was necessary. Luckily, the material I used to d the desk initially is called, “Quick 15″ and it dries to the touch in 15 minutes and can be re-coated in an hour. So 3 coats goes on very quickly.

The not so fun part was the sanding beforehand.

And sanding.

And sanding.

And even more sanding.

Have I mentioned how much I hate sanding?

But it’s done now and I’m enjoying it even more.

Here are some shots I took last week. This was before my new tv was installed – a birthday gift from Mr. NexStitch! – and a rug arrived. Plus, at this point, I still had random stuff a strewn in the room. Don’t mind the mess!

I bought a lovely wreath on Rue La La in May that was loaded with gorgeous seashells (By the way, that’s a link to an invite for the site as they’re invitation only. You get a free $10 credit for signing up. I never pimp sites like this ever, but this site is really awesome. I’ve purchased many things at discounted prices). I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the wreath when I bought it but as the room was coming together, it seemed like the right place to put it.

I'm blurring the hallway there because it's a hot mess. Another project to be done after the bathroom and closet project that's next up.

What I think I love the most is the light in here. Before it was either really dark or the sun was glaring brightly, but now it’s light and soft and lovely.

Lots of pretty, filtered light now.

I think it goes without saying that the focal point in the room is the awesome bookshelf. I picked up a bunch of baskets from Pottery Barn and used four of them here. They’re perfect for W.I.P.’s, yarn, whatever. It was total coincidence that they wound up fitting in the space.

Squeee!

The shells on the shelf were the best freebie I’ve ever received. I got them from someone on the Freecycle website. They lived about 20 minutes from me and had been clearing out their home because it’s on the market. When I went to pick them up, I thought I’d hit the lottery! They’re gorgeous (More pics of those to come).

I also purchased several other baskets to use in the desk area. They’re great for holding CD’s, miscellaneous paper and envelopes, and a variety of little things I never really had a place for but preferred they be kept tucked away.

It's already a mess!

In the side corner of the room, I’m making a little tv nook. I have the tv on a bracket on the wall. And the rug came last week, as I said. I purchased a new lampshade for a lamp I already had but wasn’t intending on using in the office (I’m trying to save a buck). Mr. NexStitch is going to help me cut the lamp down because it’s too tall to fit under the slope of the roof. I’ve also picked out a chair which I hope to purchase soon, too. Another great Pottery Barn item.

Lots to do still.

I had some plant stands already so I intend to recycle them. I just need to get some plants! Maybe today, even.

But now on to the fun part: decorating! I have some ideas. They will unfold as I bring them to life.

Sit tight!
