Office Remodel Update: Going Gaga

A view of the work in progress

Another quick update during the trim work process. We’re about a day behind on things but what’s being cranked out is a feast to beholden. I can’t stop looking at it. I think I’ve gone up and down the stairs to snatch sneak peeks of it at least 10 times today, and to just stand in the room and imagine myself in it.

We’ve owned this home for nearly 6 years now. We bought at the height of the market and completely overpaid for it thinking we’d be locked out of home ownership. Now, 6 years and many mortgage payment later, we’re just getting to the fun stuff: remodeling.

Window Trim

I can't wait for Kitty Kats to hang out on this ledge!

I envision every room in this house being torn down to the stud – the exception would be the upstairs hallways which would be a partial tear-down – and done over properly. Our bedroom remodel took forever and this office remodel is cruising along in comparison.

Swoon!

Have you ever done this?: planned for a vacation for over 6 months in advance and thereby each day you count the days down to that vacation? That was our first trip to Aruba. But the next trip was way more spontaneous. The school year ended (June for us here) and I said to my husband, “Let’s go to Aruba. Like, end of summer. Let’s just GO.” And we did. There was no long work-up to it. I started researching and planning immediately and next thing I knew, it was the end of August and we were on a plane to Aruba.

Built-in Bookshelf Trimmed Out

Exposed! For being lovely.

This remodel is kinda like the second Aruba trip: we know the lay of the land – trim, stain, poly, floor finishing – and we’re going to get to the good part so much quicker. My need to see immediate results and to basque in the nearly robotic-like way in which I enjoy checking things off the “to do” list is on overdrive here.

Built-in Bookshelf Molding

I simply LOVE how this came out.

Next up: The contractor will most likely be done with trimming on Saturday. And hopefully sometime early next week we can finish and seal the floors.
