Back Story:
A few years (and several larger clothing sizes) ago, I asked fellow crochet designers Drew Emborsky and Pam Gillette to join me in putting together content for 3 shows on the now defunct crafty show called, “Uncommon Threads” on the DIY/HGTV network (You can check us out in this clip). I knew both of them from online as we’d tend to hang out around the same places talking crochet.
Over the course of the summer, we got to know one another since there was much legwork involved in putting these shows together and so that by the time we met in Burbank, California to shoot, it felt as though we already knew one another.
Pam and I had met at the airport and shared a taxi to the studio. She was warm, and funny, and I felt like she got my very Jersey personality well, despite not being from the tri-state area. She instantly came off as the genuine person that I knew via many emails and online chats.
Fast forward to this past Fall, when Pam was diagnosed with breast cancer. A group of fellow crochet designers wanted to do something special for Pam to let her know that we were thinking of her and to give her some support. So a crocheted afghan was designed in her honor, each square being created by a designer and joined together.
My task in this endeavor was to do the photography and lay out the graphics for a booklet that is now being sold at , who generously donated the yarn for this project.
Let me just say that the photography and layout end of things were a blast. Being given full reign over a project like this is an absolute dream of mine. I was fortunate that I access to an incredible beach house at the Jersey Shore, which made taking the pictures a pleasure. If all shoots could be this fun…
