It occurred to me that I never introduced the latest addition to my household to my blog readers: Roxie! She was our neighbor’s (he lived across the street) cat for several years and during that time, she’d apparently had a couple liters of kitties (none of which I was aware of), one of which was a jealous male who didn’t treat mama kitty nicely. So she decided to set out and find a new home.
Last year while we were off getting married, Roxie started making her way around our house and into our hearts. It all started off innocently enough when she came by and we gave her some milk. That lead to another visit in which we let her in our house. And then I gave her some fresh fish. Soon enough, she was meowing at 2am because she wanted in. I’m a sucker. I let her in (Wouldn’t you?)
When our neighbor lost his house in foreclosure, we opted to take Roxie in when he offered her to us. At that point, she was spending nights at our house and stopping by for food in the morning and afternoon anyways. Kitty with benefits.
The same day he offered her to us, I had earlier on in the day, offered to take her to the vet because she had a wound from her male kitty that bit her on her neck, as well as a severe situation on her rear near her tail. Incessant biting and licking had caused her to be bare and bloody. It wasn’t pretty to look at and I felt so bad for this poor creature.
Fast forward 7 months later and over 1G in vet bills, we’re still trying to find the cause of the biting/licking. We’ve been through the ringer with this kitty, tried lots of different treatments/foods/etc. She’s worth it though because she’s the coolest cat.
So now that she’s costing us a fortune, we’ve put her to work. She has all kinds of jobs including Head of Squirrel Chasing, Queen of All Things Napping, and her latest job, Tech Editor at NexStitch.
She’s really working out quite nicely. As I say frequently at home, “WE LOVES DIS KITTEH!”
