I’ve been cheating on you and I’m not ashamed of it at all!
Alright, it’s not that scandalous. I’ve just been oil painting.
Yes, painting!
I need stuff to decorate my office. I took this picture over the summer…
…and made a small, 10″ x 10″ painting of it for one of the walls in my office.
I wanted to make something that was similar but not the same, something that had abstract qualities. I was going for a neutral color palette with jazzed-up, saturated colors mixed in. The photo above isn’t super color accurate, but it shows the gist of it.
I have a companion piece planned (same size) that will be displayed underneath it. I just shot some pictures of a shell from one of my trips, with and without a background, right here in my office. I tried to make it look like I was at the beach.
Here’s how I did it:
My canvas is gessoed and ready to go. Not sure of my approach yet. I just know, I don’t want it to take anywhere near the month is took to do the one above considering that the one below here was done in a day and a half.

This was the first painting I'd done since college. I made it for my bedroom. I like everything except the background.
Hi Amie!
The painting is beautiful! And your site has changed a bit. Love it.
It’s been years since I’ve visited your site. Not that I didn’t enjoy it. I just needed to stay away from anything yarn for a while. But alas . .I’m back to it and having a blast.
